Of course, it’s going to take time for the Reds’ new players to gel with one another, but there has been more than one occasion this term when it’s felt like Liverpool were the worst team on the pitch.

And, even though Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-2 in their opening Premier League game of the campaign, it felt like players such as Antoine Semenyo were getting the better of Milos Kerkez.

“There is a very big competition in the Liverpool team, the expectations for Florian Wirtz have risen, from the outside or that he has in himself,” he said to Sport Bild.

“And it won’t be like in Leverkusen at first, that everyone plays for him, he gets almost every ball.

The striker was one of the best in the Premier League last season, and with the likes of Wirtz and Mohamed Salah around him, it’s hard to see how he won’t improve while at Anfield.

Indeed, Hugo Ekitike is still among Liverpool’s first-team squad, and although he’s likely to be used as a left-winger on occasion, it feels like the Frenchman will be used much less now Isak is around.

Of course, the 2025-26 season is set to be intense, especially if the Reds get into the latter stages of the Champions League, but with world-class players such as Wirtz and Isak now among their ranks, it’s hard to see how things could go wrong.

At the moment, anything could end up happening, but since Liverpool have upgraded their team even more after the international break, it’s setting up to be a rather exciting season for the Anfield outfit.
